Before reaching the heights, top chefs first have to prove they can cook perfect scrambled eggs. In Painting & Decorating the deceptively simple task is perfectly painting spindles. What are spindles? They’re the poles that hold up your bannister rail. Some square, some ornately turned – all tricky to paint to perfection. So that’s the job the Painting & Decorating apprentice – the monkey – has to master. When the spindle monkey can proudly stand back from a set of spindles she’s painted to perfection, she’s ready.
